you get a 30 day free trial to test it out (but you give them your cc number up front. they just don't post until after the 30 days are up. They give you, for $39.99, the jack to connect to your computer, 1 year service, including a phone number, call waiting and forwarding, and more. I use it to call anyone not on my cellular system. you just plug a standard phone (corded or cordless) to the jack, and away you go. I actually get better reception (most of the time) than my cellphone.
